Goals of CLP

SURoC Members,

Here are the short and long term goals that I have come up with. Short Term: 1-2 years Develop CLP into a learning initiative.

I would like CLP to become a curriculum of sorts that could be used to teach an Intro to Robotics course to a high school class. This Project should remain a student led and produced project. By doing so SUROC members will be able to learn a good deal about robotics. Over the next 2 years

I would also like to begin developing a system of hardware and software components that can be implemented seamlessly to create a framework for robotic systems. This project should help students develop skills and use information that they have been learning in classes, as well as through CLP. Eventually I would like to see these products marketed, so that SUROC can become a self sustained organization.

Long Term: 3-5 years I would like to see the CLP broaden out from the original topics that we are working on now. I want first and second year students to be able to use CLP to learn about SUROC’s system as well as robotics in general. Once they have covered the CLP they would be expected to contribute to some aspect of it. This should include more advanced research in to certain concepts of robotics. Their research could then be included in the CLP database.

Other long term goals I would like to see SUROC use the system that I mentioned earlier to develop platforms for testing concepts related to robotics.

I would like to see SUROC become an active participant in competitions, both on a national level and an international level.

Finally I would like to see SUROC get its own lab. I feel that this is important in the development of my other goals. This will also promote a sense of responsibility and pride in the work being accomplished by SUROC members. While this goal may seems somewhat expensive I feel that if my other goals are realized SUROC will be able to fund the Lab independently.

Please feel free to email or post on the forum any comments and or questions you may have.
